In God’s Tractor Beam

By Jonathan Bernis,
CEO of Jewish Voice

In this post, Jonathan Bernis recounts the amazing things God did during the Hear O’ Israel! Festival of Jewish Music & Dance in Montevideo, Uruguay, August 2010. In the YouTube video clip, Rabbi Bernis shares his passionate concern with the Jewish Voice staff for a Jewish Uruguayan widow who, though unbelieving, came to the Festival night performances and showed great interest.  Bernis believes this elderly woman will one day bow the knee to her Messiah Yeshua.

After the Thursday evening concert, I went out to a late dinner with Paul Wilbur just to talk to him about a few things. We found this remote restaurant that was about two blocks away from the concert hall.

We were sitting there quietly when a woman in her late 70s-early 80s walked through the door. She had a bag with all of the Festival books, so I knew right away she had come from the Festival.

She gently came up to us. She didn’t speak very good English, but she was a Jewish woman, not a Believer, who was on vacation in Montevideo from Beunos Aires. She had come to the Festival Wednesday and she had come back Thursday, and in broken English she made it clear that she was not a Believer and she didn’t believe in it.

I asked, “Did you enjoy it?” And she said, “Yes, yes, very much.” (more…)

Results indicate that God brought us success!

  • 426 cards turned in from people responding with an interest in Messianic Judaism or Yeshua who will be followed up with

Continue to pray that more people−both Jewish and non-Jewish−would bow their knee to the Lord and make that decision to dedicate their lives to Messiah Yeshua. Also pray for our team of staff and volunteers, who are working tirelessly to present God’s message clearly and powerfully through the arts, through prayer, through teaching and preaching, and through meeting people one-on-one on the streets. Ask God to give us energy and wisdom.

May He show Himself strong to the people of Montevideo!

It is day one of four of our 2010 Hear O’ Israel Festival of Jewish Music & Dance (Festival de Música y Danza Judia in Spanish) in Montevideo, Uruguay.

It’s a bit intense around here with many preparations and last-minute details being taken care of for tonight. The Festival show is at 8 p.m., and rehearsals, sound checks, and run-throughs are underway.

The Jewish Voice Outreach team is in downtown Montevideo distributing Festival flyers that promote our Messianic Jewish worship event featuring performances by singer Paul Wilbur, violinist Maurice Sklar, and dancer Oksana Pavlova.

There is excitement and anticipation in the air, but there is also concern of protests from those who are unwelcoming to Messianic Believers. We are asking the Lord to soften and open hearts.

It’s been such an amazing three weeks here in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Lord has opened so many doors.

Jonathan Bernis and the other members of our Jewish Voice office team arrived last night. Tonight we are in the hotel preparing for the group’s arrival tomorrow.

The last few weeks have been filled with so many logistical duties that to try and recount them all is very difficult. There are so many things that have to come together for a Hear O’ Israel! Festival of Jewish Music and Dance outreach: books, fliers, and posters to print; church networking and recruitment; production details; planning to establish a new Messianic congregation; and so much more. Our small Jewish Voice advance team of three (myself included) have worked tirelessly but with great excitement… all for what happens next week! (more…)
