Israel-Syria Border Tensions ‘More Explosive’

Israel-Prayer-Alert-Header3

The two-year civil war in Syria has often threatened to spill across the borders into other nations. This week that threat moved even closer to reality as Syrian troops (intelligence reports indicate these were government troops rather than rebels) fired on an IDF patrol jeep near the Golan border. Syria claims to have attacked the jeep inside their territory, but Israel insists the jeep was on Israeli land. Israel responded to the attack with a missile that destroyed the stronghold from which the shots were fired.

In a bluntly worded statement, Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff General Benny Gantz said, “Israel cannot allow the Golan Heights area to become a comfortable space for Assad to operate from. If he causes [the situation on] the Golan Heights to deteriorate, he will have to bear the consequences.” One reporter described the situation as “more explosive” than anything seen in recent years. Supplies for our Manipur medical clinic.

DATELINE: India

I am in India awaiting our group’s arrival tomorrow for our Jewish Voice Manipur medical mission. Back in Manipur, the team is continuing medical clinic preparations.

We are facing new challenges with this year’s clinic as it has been raining almost every day while we have been preparing the clinic. While the rain is cooling temperatures, it is causing some unique obstacles. We have come up with some great solutions to ensure we have a successful clinic.

Please Pray for the Following:
1. Safe travels for our team
2. Health of our team
3. Unity among our team members
4. All of our luggage to arrive safely
5. Our Ethiopian medical professionals to arrive safely from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
6. That we would not incur any customs fines
7. That our team can have a peaceful rest before continuing on to Manipur the next morning
8. Internet connectivity in Manipur has been down, so please pray that there is a quick solution for this problem

Praise Reports:
1. We have been able to secure a slit lamp in country, so our eye surgery team has all of their supplies needed to operate.

Thank you for all your prayers and support throughout this outreach. The Lord has continued to provide for us, and we are believing for amazing stories and testimonies from this outreach.

Great day for a weary but joyful team as we all reunite at the hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Part of the team went to the Jewish Voice medical clinic site to pack up, while a majority came back to Addis. The roads were treacherous and we were not sure that the larger vehicles could pass.

We are now preparing for a wonderful Shabbat meal together and some much-needed rest. Final numbers for the medical clinic to follow.

Consider joining us on a Jewish Voice medical mission as a volunteer!  All throughout the year, we host international medical outreaches for underprivileged Jewish communities in remote parts of Africa and India that feature free treatment for medical, eye, and dental conditions. Our five-day clinics bring not only physical healing through medicine and medical procedures, but also spiritual healing through sharing the Gospel of Yeshua and through prayer. You don’t have to be a medical professional to raise your own support and come on a humanitarian outreach with us; you just need to be willing to serve with a heart of compassion. Sign up for an upcoming outreach.

The last day of our Jewish Voice Hosanna medical clinic brought plenty of challenges; many of the team are still on a bus, which is stuck in the mud! Yet attitudes are still great.

Today we saw 2,498 patients in our clinic, and the total patients we were able to help during our clinic was 9,398! Our numbers are still incomplete on those who visited the prayer room.

Tomorrow we will pack up and head back to Addis Ababa.

Working Poor in Israel Struggling to Get By

Israel-Prayer-Alert-Header3

A new economic report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) reveals how difficult life has become for the working poor of Israel. Unemployment is a widespread problem that has left many in poverty, but even many of those who do have jobs are struggling to get by. According to the study, one quarter of those who are working are “low income”—trying to provide their needs on the equivalent of about $300 per week. As a result, poverty and hunger continue to grow among the People of Israel.

The economic hardship in the Jewish State is partly the result of the government’s intense focus on defending against current and future attacks, and partly the impact of worldwide economic boycotts being promoted by Palestinian groups and their supporters. Though the economy of Israel is in better shape than that of many of its neighbors, there is still a serious problem with providing the social and humanitarian needs of the people.

Our goal is to step into this gap and help meet these needs so that we can minister the Gospel of Yeshua to the Jewish People. Jewish Voice has partnered with more than two dozen ministries on the ground in Israel that are working on the front lines to provide urgently needed help to the poor, sick, and forgotten.

Truly this is what Yeshua did as He walked through Israel—reaching out to help those in need and proclaiming the Good News. Your prayers and financial support make it possible for us to continue His work in our day.

I am asking you today to pray especially for the safety of the People of Israel. There are many threats in the news and others which are not getting attention, but are nonetheless very real. This is an extremely dangerous time for the Jewish People and they need our prayers. Thank you for being part of the work of Jewish Voice as we reach out to the Jewish People in the name of Yeshua. God bless you.

We are all rejoicing at the close of clinic day number two. Some 2,105 patients received care today, and hundreds came to visit the prayer room at our Jewish Voice medical clinic.
